Both ColourfastDIY SBL teams had solid performances, the girls winning 77-57 and the men 75-41. Captain Maggie Pitt led the way with 20 points including this athletic play (below)
In the men's SBL, Christian Pang's QBL experience in the preseason Blitz helped him find his rhythm in their SBL clash leading the way with 16 points and Dan O'Connor (below) chipping for 10 points.
In the women's QBL clash new import for Toowoomba, Maria Royo Torres was unstoppable scoring 44 points along with 10 rebounds. The Pirates were in control through the first half and looked steady with Sidney Parsons navigating the Ship. A few careless turnovers at the start of the third quarter allowed the Mountaineers back into the contest. The Pirates, Abi Marsh battled hard but without import, 6'4" Erica Carlson (arrives this week) and 6'4" Ashlee Hannan (U16 state team commitments), the Mountaineers managed to power their way to a 5 point win 77-72.
The men's QBL matchup created high drama as Toowoomba's imports Eron Maxey and Chris Whitehead were suited up but were not allowed to take the court as the paperwork had not been completed to clear them to play. The game was delayed as an intense discussions and phone calls were made before tip off.
The Pirates were also without their imports seven foot centre Jason Conrad (arrives this week) and 6'8" Tanner McGrew (arrives next week). Ryan Vines and Jarred Bairstow were outstanding as the Pirates took control of the game early and were never threatened winning 94-71. (Bairstow 24pts, Vines 19pts). Injury concern for Luke Pittle (below) who injured his hand diving for a loose ball dislocating a finger. Initial x-rays have cleared him of a fraction but may be out for next weeks Mothers Day clash against Gladstone. Women at 12.00noon and Men at 2.00pm.
