Stephanie Bairstow ripped the USC Rip for 7 of 9 from the three point line on her way to 32 points for the TripBookee Pirates last night, but it was Skye Rees who iced the game hitting a game winner in the dying seconds. Sidney Parsons was out with a knee issue and Shelby Cheslek had limited minutes with foul trouble. Skye hit two clutch free throw with 27 seconds left to tie the game at 74 - 74. The Rip hit one of two foul shots on the next play to put them up 75 - 74. With only 3 seconds left, Rees silenced the crowd with a shot to win it 76-75!
The WCMG Pirate men fought hard for a win against the previously undefeated Sunshine Coast Rip. Poor shooting hurt the Rip early on and the Pirates moved out to a ten point margin. The Rip came roaring back in the last quarter to take the lead with 2 minutes to go, off the back of some Pirate turnovers and a Lance Hurdle three pointer. Tanner McGrew steadied the ship with some foul shots and a jump shot to bring the Pirates home with the win 82-70.
Both teams face a big challenge against Logan tomorrow at the "Ship" for the Karlee Adams Charity Shield. The Women tip off at noon and the men at 2.00pm! There will be some awesome opportunities to grab some unique sporting memorabilia, so get down there and support a great event!
