The South West Metro Pirates are excited to welcome Derrick Washington Jr as the head coach of the Women's NBL1 team for 2023.
Derrick is a 2 time Hall of Fame Athlete from the US, honored for his basketball performance at both the high school and collegiate levels.
Derrick started his player development career working with the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA and became a NBA personal skills coach for 14-year Veteran Anthony Tolliver.
Derrick has coached in Australia previously, coaching the women’s Launceston Tornadoes team to the SEABL championship in 2018 and also developed the league MVP. He has also coached in the inaugural NBL1 South season in 2019 again for Launceston, moving to Norwood SA for the 2020 NBL1 season. Since then his coaching career has taken him across the world, having coached teams in the United Kingdom and most recently in Egypt.
